Blog2: Learning Design II

The learning environment I chose after group discussion is direct instruction. The direct instruction method is a method of teaching directly in the language taught without the help of my native language. The meaning of ‘direct’ is the meaning of directly connecting language with objective things such as words or things.

Direct instruction is the oldest, most popular, and most practical teaching method at present. For example, when we were infants, our parents were our earliest teachers, teaching us how to pronounce and speak sentence by sentence. Here we use direct instruction. In primary school, we are exposed to more knowledge, and direct teaching is the most efficient way to learn things, mathematics, In primary school, we need to learn addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Direct instruction is when the teacher gives us examples of each question type and teaches us how to get the correct answer. This is direct instruction. In China, most of the teaching methods are direct instruction, which is something I have experienced personally.

The theme of our group is drawing. I think direct instructions are very suitable for this topic. For example, first, we need to understand the preparation of drawing and how to understand various types of pencils. I can directly tell the students which types are available from thin to thick, and then the choice of paper and the matching of pigments. These are necessary knowledge that students need to remember, However, if exploratory learning or other methods are used, students may miss some key information when learning this basic knowledge. Then drawing can not draw the desired pattern with a pen. First, the teacher needs to directly demonstrate how to draw a draft, such as the space in the drawing, the basic lines of objects, etc. these direct instructions can easily and effectively let the students understand how to draw without blind self-exploration.

Of course, this learning mode also has many shortcomings, such as being boring, unable to develop students’ own creative thinking, and having no time for students to discuss. These often conflict with the exploration, analysis, creation, and reflection on our subject. So in my opinion, direct instruction is applicable to the basis of learning painting. If you need to know more, you need to discuss it in combination with other learning methods, such as experiential learning.

Finally, I think this direct instruction is a good way for much basic education, I will talk about my topic in this way later because this method is most suitable for people who do not know.

Hi sullo,

The learning experience you share is very good. Learning plan is a very good choice. Doing the planned things at a specific time every day and special environment will also improve the quality of learning.
Thank you,

Hi Derek,
After reading your blog, I have many ideas . K12 education system is very mature at present, especially in North American countries. Students can have a lot of school interest courses instead of boring textbooks, which often comes from 9-year compulsory education in China. On the contrary, students still have enough time to practice or pursue their favorite direction every day.
Thanks,

Blog1:Learning, Motivation, and Theory

In modern society, learning is inevitable. After reading the article, I have a certain understanding and my own views on learning theory and learning motivation.

  1. the need to learn a new skill or solve a current problem
  2. the sense that it is something we will enjoy or be good at
  3. an interest or curiosity about the topic

“(Motivation and Learning, 2022).
First of all, we need to know what to study. In another article, we wrote three points that disagree with the second point because, in my opinion, no one is naturally good at something. We can fully master a skill step by step from the primary level, so I think we can learn and master it through our love for things, but we can never be good at things without learning.

I am a student of computer science. In a professional course seng265 last semester, I encountered the most difficult thing since my university. Before that, this has not happened in every course I have taken. This is a course on software development, but I was a little flustered when the teacher sent us the first assignment in the second week of school, Because I have never learned the programming language required by this assignment, but now my assignment needs it, so this has become my motivation to learn a new skill. Of course, this is a very difficult challenge for me. I have to master a very difficult programming language in a very short time, and it takes a semester to normally learn a programming language, so I set a plan for myself, spend at least 3 hours a day browsing and reading relevant books and teaching videos, and find some simple problems to practice programming. Finally, I succeeded and learned one more programming language on the basis of learning the seng265 course.

In my opinion, behaviorists, cognitivism, and constructivists have very different learning styles. For example, a high school social study teacher is planning a class on climate change Behaviorists will take action to get some weather data to strengthen the course content. Cognitivism will discuss with learners to let students develop their own thinking to imagine climate change, while constructivists actively call on students to experiment and gain experience. For me, behaviorists are worth learning, because the action is the only standard to prove real-time truth.
